FACEBOOK akhir-akhir ini mendapat perhatian yang kurang baik dari pengguna dan dari pihak regulator terkait cara kerja platform ini dalam menangani data pribadi.
Saat ini ternyata sedang ada gosip tidak sedap lain terkait Facebook karena ada indikasi bahwa Facebook akan terkena denda. Sebelumnya Google terkena denda sebesar 22.5 juta USD dan denda seperti ini tidak membuat Google bergeming karena masih terlalu kecil dengan keadaan Google saat ini.
Berbeda dengan Google, Facebook terindikasi akan membuat catatan sejarah baru bagi industri teknologi dot com. Facebook ada kemungkinan mendapat denda hingga belasan miliar USD. Jumlah terbesar jika diterapkan ke Facebook seperti yang dilaporkan pertama kali bocoran gosip ini oleh The Washington Post.
The Federal Trade Commission and Facebook are negotiating over a multi-billion dollar fine that would settle the agency’s investigation into the social media giant’s privacy practices, according to two people familiar with the probe.
The fine would be the largest the agency has ever imposed on a technology company, but the two sides have not yet agreed on an exact amount. Facebook has expressed initial concern with the FTC’s demands, one of the people said. If talks break down, the FTC could take the matter to court in what would likely be a bruising legal fight.

Volkswagen will offer consumers a buyback and lease termination for nearly 500,000 model year 2009-2015 2.0 liter diesel vehicles sold or leased in the U.S., and spend up to $10.03 billion to compensate consumers under the program. In addition, the companies will spend $4.7 billion to mitigate the pollution from these cars and invest in green vehicle technology.
Marc Rotenberg yang merupakan salah satu dari executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center menyebutkan bahwa FTC akan menggunakan posisinya sebagai otoritas yang berwenang terkait perlindungan privasi bagi publik sebagai pengguna layanan.
